Art of Seeing Photographically
A camera workshop in our gallery
February 18, 2012
9:30am-2:30pm
The Art of Seeing Photographically workshop will give participants creative techniques and exercises for developing a heightened awareness (hypersensitivity) to the world around them, to be able to look beyond mundane and commonplace subject matter and break external visual references down into basic lines, forms, colors, values, and textures, framing these commonplace external references into new and visually interesting compositions in both words and pictures. It's all about learning to see as an artist and translating potential subject matter more effectively through your personal artistic sensibility.
These techniques can be applied to any art form; however, we will be focusing on photography during this workshop.
Seeing, in the finest and broadest sense means using your senses, your intellect and your emotions. The visual artist best expresses a theme or idea by applying good composition (visual design) to support the subject matter for his/her photographs. Good seeing begins with careful and acute observation of what’s around the photographer.
I will meet all skill levels in this workshop in order to help each photographer take his/her work to a higher more visually dynamic and conceptual level. The workshop will include formal photography instruction geared specifically to each photographer’s skill level, in addition to personal time to photograph in and around the local area to apply the techniques learned in the workshop. A critique session will be conducted at the end of the workshop.
Students will need a digital camera and flash drive to put their pictures on for the critique.
