Matt Cutting for Picture Framing By: M. Matteson Smith
"MATT CUTTING FOR PICTURE FRAMING"
M. Matteson Smith is an award-winning artist from Wilmington , will conduct a workshop on mat cutting. You will be surprised at how easy it is …and how much money you’ll save by doing it yourself! Absolutely no artistic ability is needed to learn the basics of mat cutting for picture framing. Students will learn to design, figure, measure and cut single and double mats for flat artwork and photographs, and are taught to assemble and set matted work into purchased picture frames. In this workshop we’ll be cutting mats for frames 16 x 20 and smaller.This class will be scheduled in the Council’s studio workrooms on Saturday, February 27, 2010 . The class will start at 10:00 am and will continue until 4:00 pm : it will be a marathon workshop, so bring a bag lunch with you.

Writer’s workshop by Robert Anthony Siegel - March 27, 2010
"HOW TO WRITE A SHORT STORY"
This one day workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 27th from 10:00am to 4:00 pm in the Council’s workrooms. In this class, students will move through a series of short writing exercises that build on one another, mapping out a short story. By the end of the day, each student will have a story to take home, well toward completion. Students will need to bring a notebook and pen. The fee for this workshop is $15.00. Mr. Siegel is an author of 2 novels: "All Will be Revealed" and "All the Money in the World." He teaches creative writing at UNCW.

“MONOPRINT WITH WATERCOLOR”
10:00 - 2:00pm
This class will be scheduled in the Council’s studio workrooms on Saturday, April 17, 2010 . The class will start at 10:00 am and will continue until 2:00 pm : it will be a marathon workshop, so bring a bag lunch with you.
Students are ask ed to bring their own watercolors/ water-based oils, water color pencils and brushes. Instructor will have supplies as well. Found items such as lace, leaves or string often can be used to enhance the image so students may want to hunt around their attics or back yard for inspiration. Johnnie will be providing enough paper for each student to have plenty of opportunity to create a masterpiece. This class is limited to 10 students and the fee is $15.00. None of the materials used in this class are known to be toxic or cause allergies.
