In honor of Black History Month the Council for the Arts will feature displays and events produced by Mr. Oliver Hill, President of Northeast Community Development Corporation.

This show, “Living Our Legacy, Honoring Our Past and Shaping Our Future in the Arts” will showcase paintings, basket weaving, music and storytelling by artists past and present.

* Artists: Ms. BF Reed, Ms. Annie Mattock and Mr. Pearless Speller, Ms. Nettie Hardison

(deceased) and Ms. Angelica Gilliam and Ms. Alexis Gilliam (young artists.)

* Music: Ms. Roberta Spicer, Ms. Sonja Williams and Ms. Allison Tynise Sutton

(young musician.)

* Basket Weaving: Ms. Margaret E. Brown.

* Story Telling: Ms. Louise Anderson (deceased)

 

In creating this exhibition, Oliver Hill states: “Art helps shape a community and builds its strength. Not only will the exhibits and displays educate the community on Black Art, it will also add to the downtown economic base and that is part of our corporation’s mission: building strong communities to survive during all economic times. ”

 

The reception will be February 7th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided by the Northeast Community Development Corporation.
