"Pop Art"
This summer will deal with all the different styles of pop art, no one artist will be featured.

Pop Art Facts -
Fact #1: It was called Pop Art because the subject in the painting was popular
Fact #2: Pop Art started in London in the mid-1950's - they called it Propaganda Art instead of Pop Art
Fact #3: Pop Art in the United States was an expression of the optimistic spirit of the 1960's
In these two hour classes, art teacher, Penny Craven, will demonstrate and discuss the life and careers of the artists.
All art materials are provided, all the children need is to "dress for mess"

FUN DAY
The Council participated in the Jacksonville Recreation Department's Holiday Fun Day event held December 1, 2007. We provide the "Make & Take" tables and children of all ages enjoy themselves!! Over 600 children enjoyed creating the "magic" of Christmas this year. **Always the first Saturday in December** |

September 25 & 26, 2008 Madcap Puppet Theatre from Cincinnati, Ohio will present "Once Upon A Clock" for 1st graders. |
October 23 & 24, 2008 Opera Express from Charlotte, NC will present "Little Red's Most Unusual Day" for 3rd graders. |
November 20 & 21, 2008
Ballet For Young Audiences based out of New York City will present "Jungle Book" to 2nd graders. |

The Arts in the Schools, a partnership program of the Council for the Arts and the Onslow County Schools system
.Established in 1981, this collaboration develops supportive arts programming in the schools for the purpose of enriching the regular curriculum.
This program is funded by the Onslow County Commissioners.
