Arts in the Schools

2009 - 2010

Did you Know?
Onslow County School System is the 14th largest system in North Carolina
approximately 23,500 students enrolled
Thirty- five (35) schools, including one Pre-Kindergarten Development Center and one Alternative Center

Since 1981, the Council for the Arts has administered the Arts in the Schools Program. Our purpose is to provide students in Onslow County an opportunity to enjoy professional artists and performers. We believe exposure to quality arts is a benefit to all students. While we cannot reach every student, we strive each year to distribute the programs as fairly as possible. This program is a partnership between the Council for the Arts and the Onslow County School System. This collaboration allows us to develop supportive arts programming in the schools for the purpose of enriching the regular curriculum. In 2009-2010 school year 5,000 students participated in the program. Arts in the Schools is funded by the Onslow County Board of Commissioners and coordinated by the Council for the Arts.

During the last 29 years, the Council has administered over $457,000.00 for this project and since its inception, over 238,100 students have benefited from this innovative program.
